The VisualMED system - Clinical Imaging & Intelerad
VisualMED displays medical imaging in the context of the clinical record through
a transparent link with the institution’s Digital Imaging and Communications System.
IntelePACS from Intelerad is a highly scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed picture-archiving and
communications system (PACS). The software comprising IntelePACS runs on workstations with the Linux
operating system and conforms to the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) version 3.0
standard. IntelePACS was designed to support mission-critical, filmless radiology departments and has
proven itself internationally.
IntelePACS manages the acquisition, distribution and archiving of digital images. It
was designed to support any DICOM-conformant image analysis workstation from any vendor, and it supports
archive systems (digital tapes and disks) from several different vendors. IntelePACS also includes a highly
sophisticated Web interface, Intelebrowser, that is used for far more than just image viewing. Both IntelePACS
and Intelebrowser are highly adaptable to address Internet and other security concerns.
VisualMED is DICOM enabled and can interface with a client hospital’s existing PACS. The
integration of VisualMED specifically with Intelerad came about as a result of our two company’s shared
philosophy that healthcare products should make sense from the perspective of their users and that state-of-
the-art medical software should be available to users across the entire range of healthcare institutions.
